What does NWOB mean?

Also: New Without Box · New No Box

NWOB stands for New Without Box. It describes an item, usually shoes, a bag or an accessory, that has never been worn or used but no longer has its original box. The item should look exactly as it did in the store. On the GradeThread scale an NWOB item grades a 9, the same as New Without Tags.

How it's used in a listing

An eBay listing for “Nike Dunk Low size 10, NWOB, tried on indoors only” is saying the shoes are new, the soles are clean and the box is gone, so expect a lower price than the same pair NIB.

How it maps to the grade scale

NWOB maps to a 9 on the GradeThread 1.0-10.0 scale: unworn like New In Box (10), but without the packaging that backs up the claim, so the grade rests on the item itself. Check the soles, the insoles and the heel counters, which show wear first.

NWOB — frequently asked

What does NWOB mean on eBay?
New Without Box. On eBay it usually goes with the condition “New without box”, which eBay offers for shoes and accessories: unworn, but missing the original box or packaging. Look at the sole photos. Tried-on shoes can still count as new; shoes worn outside cannot.
What does NWOB mean on Poshmark?
The same thing: new, never worn, original box missing. Poshmark has no NWOB option, so sellers write it in the title or description and pick New With Tags or Like New in the condition field. Ask for sole photos before you buy, because “new” is the claim the box would have proved.
Does a missing box lower the price?
Usually, and most for sneakers, where collectors pay for the box. Expect NWOB to sell for less than the same item NIB. For everyday shoes and accessories the gap is small, and an honest NWOB listing beats an NIB claim the buyer can disprove.
